Rolex Sky Rocket Rare Military WW2 1940's Vintage Collectors Watch Original Box

  

This understated vintage, all original and correct 1942 ROLEX AVIATOR'S watch named the "ROLEX SKYROCKET" was produced for Canadian soldiers going overseas in WW2 and was marketed towards fighter pilots. This is a original and very clean 30mm nickel back case with dust proof winding crown.

The original and signed ROLEX case back is Nickle. This particular version is a more valuable ROLEX signed case back. These ROLEX SKYROCKET watches were ALL small in stature. They were likely made smaller to reduce the chance of damaging them during combat and most importantly getting in the way. The original dial on this SKYROCKET is very attractive with original radium Arabic numerals, blued steel original pencil hands and with a original sweep-seconds subsidiary counter. The manual winding caliber 59 ROLEX movement (correctly signed ROLEX under the dial) is sparkling and keeping accurate time after a recent cleaning by a ROLEX specialist watchmaker. I'm not seeing these watches appear forsale as of late. Most ROLEX SKYROCKET dials have been refinished, which reduces their value. This original example is a gem and comes complete with its rare original presentation box. Original Dial: Signed Rolex Sky-Rocket Shockproof. The aged silvered dial has a beautiful patina, with luminous Arabic numerals, outer red 24-hour chapter ring, skeleton hands that were once luminous and subsidiary seconds counter.

Dial has marks and foxing commensurate with age and wear, please observe photographs. The dial has superb patina. Original Crystal: Has surface hairline scratches commensurate with age and wear not noticeable to the naked eye only under magnification. Overall good condition for age. Original Case: Nickle case is tarnished and faded all over with scratches commensurate with age and wear.

Structurally in good condition to include the downturned lugs and lug holes in particular. Original Case Back Cover Outer: Has surface hairline scratches associated with stainless steel commensurate with age and wear. There are no dents that I can see. Original Case Back Cover Inner: Signed Rolex.

In good condition for age. Original Movement: Signed Rolex under the dial not visible in photos. Original nickel-finished lever movement, 17 jewels, bimetallic compensation balance. Recently serviced and in excellent working order keeping accurate time. Crown/Winder: Unsigned in excellent working order very smooth indeed, tight when fully wound, no slipping.

Strap/Buckle: Character vintage old strap unsigned aftermarket in well worn condition, albeit good functional order.
