RARE 1978 Vintage BILINGUAL Star Wars R2D2 with box

  

I bought this new in Toronto as a kid when I lived in Detroit back in 1978. The figure is in excellent shape with minimal yellowing, chrome head is in very good condition as shown. The box is in very good condition, it has the red cardboard insert and, the cardboard piece that goes under it. I do not have the ties, cardboard piece that goes behind the red insert or, the instructions.

Kenner Canada, located in Toronto, Ontario, held the license for Star Wars toys in Canada from 1977 until 1985. It was a joint venture between Irwin Toy of Canada and General Mills/Kenner USA.

Canadian Star Wars items were only produced at about 10 percent of American volume levels. As a result, THEY ARE EXTREMELY RARE!

Canadian releases of Star Wars toys are unique in that the packaging is bilingual; consisting of English and French text in order to comply with bilingualism laws. Canadian-made Star Wars items also bear the Kenner logo with accompanying Kenner Canada address.
